Listen…but this time more.

I remember in my last publication I asked you to listen to the things that weren’t necessarily words. This time, I want us to take it a step further.

When I got saved, I struggled with hearing God. It was worse when everyone around me would say “God said” “God told me” “I heard Him say”. Boy, was it a hard time.

As you’d expect of any believer, we grow in spiritual things. From an infant to a mature believer.

I quickly learned that It didn’t make sense to complain about not hearing God and not having clarity when I didn’t already utilize all the materials He had made available — The Holy Bible and the secret place.

I started reading but I was often looking out for a Samuel experience, where It’d be audible or you know, dream about the answers to my supplications (the popular way people hear from God). Poor me, The Lord is too mighty to be limited to my ways.

Being a reader, reading memoirs gave me a lil more details on the author’s personality. So when I read through the books, I noticed how He would speak and what He would say. My spiritual ears widened. It was really great to converse with the King of Kings and the Powerful one.

Again, I can’t limit this God.

I was talking to a friend last year and I said “you know what, Actions speak louder than words”, as soon as I left the scene, the Holy Spirit checked me “Oh really, you mean that ?” “So why do you discredit my own actions”. To shed more light, the Holy Spirit was throwing a big stone at me and asking me why I was always looking for the audible voice.

You know I sat down and thought things through like I still do today. Why do I, or maybe you, choose to look for God in one very rigid way? Why don’t we think that friendship he brought our way is him speaking? Or the person he took out of our life? Why don’t we see the breadcrumbs he drops to pull us in? Why are we deciding to give “coincidence” the credit? Why is God letting scriptures or show up on your timeline and you’re still asking him for the way out? Why is he letting your friend speak about the business idea and you’re disposing of it so quickly?

Why like me, have you refused to let his actions be louder than words? The box you have put him in?

Come outside my friend, and look around. He’s loud. He’s speaking. Listen a little more. He’s still speaking and you can still listen.
